Flexible Monday – Saturday from 9:00am – 3.00pm

Plus availability to cover holiday for P/T Cook

Contract length: This is a permanent contract with a probationary period of three months.

Hourly Rate: £10.36

Overall Purpose of the role:

We seek to deliver amazing food here at the Orchard Coffee House. We are looking for a vibrant and creative Assistant Cook who will be responsible for preparing fresh, local ingredients to produce and present our own cakes and light meals just as you would at home. We expect the focus of this role to be on preparing and making the light lunches along with assisting the Lead Cook in cake making to our already high standard and range.

Orchard Coffee House provides cakes, sandwiches, toasties, paninis and light meals alongside hot and cold beverages on a daily basis. Orchard Coffee House will be serving up to 40 covers per sitting as well as offering a takeaway service for our menu. Working with the Coffee House Manager and our other Lead Cook, you will plan how best to cater for Orchard Coffee House having the opportunity to be creative with the menus and recipes.

Principal duties and responsibilities are to:

Prepare and plan seasonal menus alongside the Lead Cook

Following our recipes, you will ensure that food is prepared, cooked and presented to specification ensuring we only offer fresh quality products.

Working along side your customer facing colleagues to ensure food is ready and available to serve to our customers throughout the day in a timely and consistent manor.

When the need arises, join the front of house team preparing drinks and serving customers.

Know our food inside out, keeping up to date with dietary and allergen advice, sharing this with your customer facing colleagues.

Communicate menu launches and changes with your customer facing colleagues.

Maintain a clean, tidy and safe kitchen to ensure an excellent working environment.

Follow the ‘Clean and clear as you go’ safe method and undertake daily washing up duties.

Assist with monitoring, organising and ordering stock to ensure stock levels are kept.

Ensure that deliveries are met and are promptly stored away as appropriate.

Control and minimise waste.

Communicate and escalate any concerns or product issues to the Team Lead.

Understand and implement best practice in Food Safety for Catering, including Health & Safety, COSHH, SFBB (HACCP) and model good practice.

Person specification

The ideal candidate will have, or be able to develop, the following:

Experience and passion for food creation and delivery.

The desire to plan and develop seasonal menus and recipes.

Experience working in short order service.

Good people and communication skills, being able to relate warmly to all people.

To work as an effective member of a team and to promote team work at all times.

Ability to work alongside volunteers that use the kitchen to cater for weekly and one off Church events.

The ability to work in a fast paced environment whilst remaining calm under pressure.

A flexible approach and the ability to adapt to a changing culture with great initiative.

An eye for detail and focused on delivering delicious and nutritious food to our customers.

Excellent organisational and time management skills.

Someone who will develop a love for the community at Gorsley, who has the desire to be visible to customers and teams.
